Long time sine I updated this one....

We have now went in a period of fly fishing for Pike's. The seatrout if protected until the 1st January in the sea and a until April in the rivers. When it's getting colder in the water the bigger Pikes in the Baltic Sea are coming much closer the land. Also when the water is colder the Pikes gives you a great fight!

With the right conditions you can have a great fishing, catching 10-15 Pikes a day. During our last 3 trips the biggest Pike have never weight under 6kg, biggest so far 8,3kg (102cm) this year and last year 11,5kg (112cm).

Som pictures of the two over 8kg got this weekend (8,1 & 8,3):

Pike's = C&R

Yes, the target is to take more pikes and bigger pikes.... Got one 11,5 kg 112 cm last year in December, so I really hope that I can get something similar this season... even thought it's not easy,

Hello

First i must to say, really nice pikes!!You must be really good in pike hunting.

But is there a lot of big pikes, and is not so hard to catch one?Or is like in Slovenia, more rare?

Hi Deko,

Thanks! The Pikes are really nice and fun to fish.

It's totally different from the trout fishing. Here you need fly rods in 8 or 9 weight, big flies (20-22cm)build up only with flash material, Wire..... so it's little of a hard core fly fishing.

The Pikes are common in Sweden. We have them in most of our lakes, rivers and in the Baltic sea (east and southeast of Sweden). If you know what's driving them and know what conditions the Pikes prefer, you can have a really great time fishing for them. Some times it's really easy, some times really difficult, depending on the air preasure (the pikes are really sensitive of changes), wind direction & water level (high/low). The Pikes are really agresive also, so there is no need to throw your fly on the same place several times, what pays off is to fish over a lot of water.

The normal size for a Pike in the water we do fish mostly is 3-4kg. On every tour this year we have caught pikes over 6kg which is pretty big. The one from 8kg an above (Pikes of 100cm or more) are more rare, but we do get a couple of those every year. Last year top was as showed above 11,5kg. This year so far the biggest one is the fish showed above 8,3 kg. The goal we have is to get one over 10kg before January. We do fish 1 day per week as mostly so we don't have to many chanses...

Note also that we do only fish for Pikes from October to December, from January we do concetrate our fishing for the sea trout. The Pike fishing is open during the whole year, and March/April also good (spawning period), depending on the water temperature, when it's below 5 degrees celcius, the Pikes are not so active as they are right now. When the water gets warmer during the summer, the biggest pikes goes out to deeper water, so the best period is absolutely right now!

Not only the fishing, the archipelago is fantastic beautiful.

You should try it once!

Fly Fishing Only...

The most effective flies are really simple. Flasabou in natural colours, green, gold, copper, pearl, or a mix of those, where the grean & gold is a favorite.

Tying method is pretty simple; 3 layers of tail, the first one makes the total lenghts of the fly to app 20cm, then 2 shorter ones on top which will give it more volume close to the body of the fly. The front part of the fly you have to dub the flasabou to get volume and finally a cone head makes the fly sink slightly and at the same time it will me much easier to cast.

The Flasabou Syntetic material don't tie water to it, makes the fly light. A natural material will tie water to it and make the fly heavy. So syntetic is preferable fo all big flies.

Her is an example of a perl,

You should try it in your waters!

Saturday, November 15th

Was out with my friends, the fishing was tough, a lot of pikes just following the fly wihtout any strike.

Anyway, we got a couple of them each, and as usually we let the small guy take the biggest one....

7,9 kg - Jeppe

Micke with his own designed GLF-Suprice fly...

Some rest needed after fighting pikes...

Long time since I updated you on the fly fishing from Sweden....

Vinter/Spring season we are chasing the sea trout, were mainly fishing on the west coast (where we live) where the size of the fish noramlly are smaler then on the east coast. Anyway here is one nice one which my friend Jesper got (and released back)

When these bastards arrives, the seatrout season is more or less over! They are coming in thousands close to the coast, after the first 5 (which are fun to catch) you start to get irritated, they are on your fly on every cast... and it sucks!

I'll skip the pictures from our Slovenian trip's since this tread is about fly fishing in Sweden only ,)

Later on the summer, when those bastards are leaving the near coast, we start to chase the sea trout again, also sometimes after the mulet which are a pretty new inhabitant in our waters, here is one on 4,2kg, what a fight! Mikael is the happy fly fisher, C/R of course!

The seatrout season ends here in the south Sweden on September 15th, then we start to chase the Pikes in the south east archipelago of Sweden. You have seen some nice ones before in this thread, this one is the latest over 10kg from a few days ago, Patrik is the fly fisher who managed to land this one (C/R)

More will come;

Enjoy!

During the atumn/winter when we don't have the time to drive to the south east of Sweden for the pikes (200km one way), and when the seatrout is permitted, we also fish for perch here closeby where we live.

We have a really interesting water which produce nice examples or Perch, record so far on fly is 1,2kg, target is to beat that size this year, so far, we are just close to 1kg.

Fly fishing for Perch is really effective, sometimes it's to easy, but it takes some knowledge to know how to find the bigger ones. A bigger sized Perch gives you a good fight on a class 3wt fly rod! Flies used is small weighted shrimps and slim baitfish!

Perch just below 1kg

C/R of course!

Enjoy

Hi Folks,

Long time sine I updated this thread. Well, it's not so strange actually, we have more or less not been able to fish at al the last 3 months due to the long winter season. The seatrout season starts January 1st, and since it's the premiere which we all have been waiting for minus -6.8 degrees couldn't stop us ,-)

Survival kit:

So, since January 1st until now we have mostly tied flies etc, but last weeks the weather really changed. South and South West winds warmer weather and the temperature in the sea went up from 0 - 1 to 2,5-4 degrees and in some bay's also up to 5 degrees. Seatrout hunters are really searching for warmer wather, just 0.2 degrees difference between places makes difference also cathing seatrout's, Warmer means more activity for the seatrouts base food during the cold months, small shrimps. Attractor coloured flies and flies with UV works also really well during the cold months.

Here is an seatrout, slightly coloured (dark) due to it recently came back to the sea from the river. Catched on a pink UV shrimp fly.

Here another one, slightly bigger (80cm and 5kg) also a dark fish recently went back to the sea from the river. Catched on a fly called 'Magnus' in size 8.

The target by fishing now is to find the seatrouts which have not been up in the river for spawning this year, sea trouts that are silver coloured and in best condition. A real fighter.

You have seen this one before, 3,6kg, but there are bigger ones, every year they catch some up to 7kg's in the sea,

Another one, 3kg

C/R

Enjoy!

Lucky, Sampei,
Thanks for your kind words. Sweden is a great place to visit for fly fishing, you are welcome to visit us at any time. Just let me know and I will support you on your fishing adventures.

Sampei, a closer look on the arctic char, fantastic colours,

This one took a black streamer, other flies we got them on were Elk&Cdc, Streaking Caddis and 'Superpuppan' povezava [link]

Next time we will come down to Slovenia, we are actually thinking of having a small workshop/presentation to share information about 'fly fishing in Sweden' with pictures, stories and other information. Let's see if there are any interests to have it and when/where it can be held.

An update on the fly fishing from Sweden;

September is going to it's end and from October 1st it's not allowed to fish after sea trout any longer (until January 1st). The last weeks of the season are really good, I would say one of the best period catching big trouts.

Some pictures:

A nice trout from our local small sea trout stream,

Another nice sea trout from the coast line,

Again from the small sea trout stream, a coloured male sea trout,

All C/R
