Zivijo!

No ,bom pa jaz prebil led.

Glede pretoka, nisem nikjer zasledil podatkov.

pozdrav
Besko

Hey Besko and Lucky,
Of course I can't understand much of what you wrote (my fault!), but I am extremely fascinated by the Neretva and Buna indigenous species, especially the "softmouth".
Can you be so kind to provide me with some additional information about fishing in Southern Bosnia and good places to catch "softmouth" trout?
Thank you!

Tight Lines !

Hi dickerson,

I have not been, but have spoke to a few people that have. The Neretva River is the main place to catch softmouth trout in Bosnia.

Have a look at povezava [link] to see the different drainages where softmouth trout may be found.

I am sure someone else can give you specifics about the fishing.

Tight Lines,

Mike

Edit: Actually besko gave a very nice report with good information on the Neretva. If he or Luka cannot translate it to English for you, I can do my very best (which will not be nearly as good as Luka's translation).

hey Luka,diskerson in mikel!
Dobi se še lipana, potočke in seveda marmorata.

Hey guys,,,

besko kindly responded that he recommends the Neretva river (district Glavaticevo) for softmouths. This little town is located upstream from the Konjic town. this district is known for its nice softmouth trouts, but it is inhabited by graylings, brown trouts and marble trouts too. it is recommended to stay there for two or three days for good fishing and to ask local fishermen for some advice.

Second best place for soutmouths would be the Žitomislići town, south of Mostar. But it is not so nice as the before mentioned.

Besko also posted some links for softmouths. Here they are:

I haven´t had a chance to flyfish for softmouth, but I also hope to do that some day in the future

Take care,
Lucky

@ Besko:
Thank you for the interesting links and for introducing us to the rivers and trout of Southern Bosnia! Can you tell us how dense is the “softmouth” population in the Glavaticevo C&R district, what are the most effective techniques and flies to catch them, and what is the best time of the year to fish the Neretva?

@ Lucky:
As usual I’m short of words, my dear friend, to express my gratitude for your prompt and kind assistance. You know what? I don’t care much for popular Bosnian river such as the Una, the Unac, the Pliva and the Ribnik, since I believe that you can’t beat Slovenia (read: the Idrijca/Soca/Unica “holy trinity”) for trout and grayling fishing in Europe. On the other hand, I am intrigued by the unique, native “softmouth” of the Neretva drainage, and I hope to visit the beautiful, historic Sarajevo / Mostar area in the future. Having read “The Bridge on the Drina” by the great Bosnian author and Nobel Prize laureate Ivo Andric, I hope that Serbs, Croats, Muslims, Christians and Jews will forever live together in peace in that green corner of the Balkans after so much trouble and suffering.

@ Mike:
Thank you for your help! I am already familiar with the “Balkan Trout” project and their great web site. (By the way: James Prosek, one of the leading members of the organization, is one of my favourite American artists and writers!) I really hope that they will do something to preserve the threatened species of the region and to increase their current populations.
