I am going to Pula this summer and would really like to try out a river in Slovenia/Croatia. Last year I fished in Kupa River and it was great! But I´ve heard something about a river called Mirna just by the boarder to Slovenia. Can somebody help me? I wonder if there are any rivers within appr. 2 hours drive from Pula Croatia. Hey guideline69! Nice hearing from you! Yes, Kolpa river (Kupa river in Croatian lang.) is a perfect choice for you if you are staying at Pula, because it is probably the closest flyfishing district in this area. At the Croatian site of the Kolpa river you have a tributary called Kupica and its tributary Curak. They are both flyfishing rivers, managed by the "SRU Goran Brod na Kupi" flyfishing Society. You may find more info here (only in Croatian): povezava [link] or at their forum- board: povezava [link] . If you want to fish the Kolpa river from the Slovenian side (Kolpa is a border-line river between SLO and CRO) you may buy a licence from the Kocevje Fishing Society- their website: povezava [link] . I don´t know if Mirna river is a flyfishing district. If anyone knows more about this, please respond here... But if you want to experience sth. new, I suggest you to visit the Rizana river, which flows through the area of Slovenian Istra, close to the Crni Kal (known for its impressive highway viaduct)- heading Koper (Capodistria)- Dekani- village Rizana. I entered the whole route for you in the Via Michellin map- here is the link: povezava [link] It says that the whole route from Pula- Rizana takes aprox. 2 hours which is exactly that what you were asking for Next extremely interesting river, named "Unica" is closer to Postojna town (known for its karst cave-one of the most beautiful ones in Europe), also near Koper- Ljubljana highway. You just take the exit "Unec" and drive towards the "Planina" village. River Unica is famous all over the world for its clear water and nice graylings and brown trouts, so it is worth to be visited Here is the link to the route from Pula to Unica: povezava [link] ... Somewhere in the middle of those two rivers, a little to the West, there is another river which is also worth to be visited Its name is Vipava and it flows through the Vipavska valley. Like the Rižana river, Vipava river is also inhabited by the endemic marble trout. Here is the route from Pula to Ajdovscina (town near the Vipava river): povezava [link] I hope this information helps You may get all additional info about mentioned slovenian rivers at this website under the "Rivers" section in the main menu or just type your questions here at the forum board Nice flyfishing greetings from the sunny side of the Alps , Lucky [ Edited Saturday 24 February 2007 - 13:18:15 ] |

...hello Guideline 69...the Mirna river is not a salmonid water - but if you wish to try flyfishing on it, you can catch a lot of barbels and chubs in this istrian water...from Buzet to Istarske toplice you can find great places for flyfishing in this small river...but like Lucky wrote - the slovenian rivers Unec, Rižana and Vipava are better choice ...

Time fly and it is now only 4 weeks left until I will steer my car towards Croatia/Slovenia ! I have started to investigate the rivers you suggested and I cant really make up my mind It seems to be quite expensive rivers thus. If you should have had 1+1 day for fishing, where would you then go? ( Not to the most expensive on pls. I think that € 70 is too much ) Catch & Release |

Hey Guideline69,,, With the exception of Unica river (which is really expensive), other rivers are not so expensive I think. With daily licence prices of about 20- 30 EUR they are somewhere in the middle of the price range for fly fishing at the Slovenian rivers. Please take a look for prices and other information in the "Rivers" section of the english version of this website (select english from the drop down menu on right first and then click "Rivers" from the main menu). We will keep you informed about the changes of water levels in the following weeks, so "stay tuned" Tight lines, Lucky [ Edited Wednesday 30 May 2007 - 22:22:04 ] |
