I just been told I will be in Lublijana on monday June 4 th and I might have the afternoon and evening off. Are there any flyfishing available near the capitol. I might consider guideing if the pricing is right???

This could be a long shot but since I love flyfishing and I don´t know when I`ll be back in Slovenia I thought I`d give it a try.

Hey c-a,,,

Welcome to the forum board!

You have a plenty of possibilities for fly fishing around Ljubljana. But you will need a car to reach destinations. The closest to Ljubljana is river Iscica, downstream from the small town, named IG- East direction, 10 min. drive from Ljubljana city centre accross the Ljubljansko Barje. Then you may also decide to fish at the Kamniska Bistrica river upstream from the town of Kamnik, 20 min. drive from Ljubljana to the North. River Krka is also close to Ljubljana, 20 min. drive using highways and 10 min. drive using local roads towards Krka village. There are also some other rivers, which may be reached in less then an hour drive (Unica river- 30 min. by highway towards South- direction UNEC, river Sava- 40 min. drive towards West- direction RADOVLJICA, Radovna- 50 min. drive towards West- direction BLED- Zg. Gorje village, Sava Bohinjka- 1 hour drive towards West- direction BLED or 1 hour 20 min.- direction BOHINJSKA BISTRICA), etc.

For detailed information about the rivers, mentioned above, please take a look at their descriptions at the website.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to post your questions here.

Tight lines,
Lucky

...I almost forgot to tell you that you may fly fish in Ljubljana too So if you won´t have much time that would be a perfect choice. At the lower part of Sava river, which flows through Tacen (a part of Ljubljana just below the Smarna Gora hill- probably the most famous hill in Ljubljana), you may catch rainbows, brownies and graylings there. This destination is reachable by the city bus line (bus numbers 8, 16), maybe just 10 minutes from the city centre...

Tight lines,
Lucky

Thanks for your reply,

I think I go for Sava if I can steal some time off. I looked at the map in google earth and it seem like there could be some hot spots just upstream the bridge (Stajerske cesta) and below the bridge towards the first island and beyond.....Am I on the right track or should I go for some other part of the stream?

Where could I get my fishing liscence? What will it cost? I will stay in the center of Ljubliana. Are there any tackle shops in the center of town ? I probably will need some local flies and nymphs.

REGARDS,
C-A

I think I have been looking too much down stream. I think I now know where you meant. Close to the bridge at Tacenski most? Close to the whitewater slalom course?

Am I in the right area? I still need som help where to buy fishing permits.

Hey c-a,,,

Sorry for my late answer. My first information was wrong. I am not sure, but I think that you may buy tourist licences only for the part of the Sava river below the bridge in Crnuce (Ljubljana). This district extends to the bridge in Sentjakob (Ljubljana). Unfortunatelly the part above the Tacenski bridge is reserved for the members of the Fishing Club Straza Sava only.

I will try to get more accurate information where it is possible to buy licences, tomorrow during the day. I am almost sure that they sell them in restaurant and a bar near the slalom course in Tacen and in the restaurant near the Tacenski bridge.

Till tomorrow,
Lucky

Hey c-a,,,

I still don´t have more information, since I was unable to get a contact person for this part of Sava river today. But I think that everything stands like I´d written in my last post. Only a part from the road bridge in Crnuce to the road bridge in Sentjakob is opened for tourist flyfishermen- that´s downstream from Tacenski bridge. This part of river is a combination of deep pools and rapids- you have to know where to access the river, since there are some parts, where wading is almost impossible and you have to cast from the banks...

You may find a map of the lower part of the Sava river, managed by the Straza Sava fishing club here. Crnuski bridge is marked with first red circle and Sentjakobski bridge with the second red circle. You may fish between them with the tourist licence. I´ve never fished this part of Sava river, but I heard that the best parts are below Jezica- just a few hundred meters from the upper district border (first circle)...

I wish you a pleasant stay in Slovenia and I hope this information helped,
Lucky

...če ima kdo več informacij o tem delu Save, se priporočamo! (Seveda lahko tudi v slovenščini). Hvala!

...I ask forumers to help with some additional information about this part of Sava river. Thanks in advance

I hope it's not too late. I often fishing under police academy in tacen. It great place over there and beautiful fishes. I am going there tomorrow (monday) at about 5pm. You can go with me over there. I also know the person who is selling day tickets for Sava. Just post if it is ok for you.

Hey oceanman,,,

Welcome to our forum board!

Thanks a lot for your post, but I think that in the meantime c-a has already returned home. I hope he succeeded to spend some hours at the Sava river. This lower part, where tourists are allowed to fish is not so nice as the upper part around Tacen, where you caught this beautiful grayling!

Unfortunatelly it wasn´t willing to pose for a nicer photo, where it could show all of his beauty, but anyway the most important thing is that it still swims in the pools of the Sava river

Tight lines,
Lucky
