Hey Forager,

here is the photo of Carnik (engl. "Witch") which is one of my favourite patterns for grayling. It should be tied on a small hook (#16,#18,#20) and fished like any other dry fly. Sometimes it can be successfully used like a wet fly also, especially if you locate graylings in rapids or faster shallow water.

[This little guy has seen many fish from the moment it was tied ]

Tying:

- red tail: I usually use synthetic material- a bunch of red fibers which are cut to the size of a tail when the fly is finished (you may also use red wool instead, but it is not so (water) resistant)
- body: peacock fibers ribbed by a gold or silver tinsel
- hackle: I usually tie it with grizzly feather (you may try other colours too, original pattern is tied with a light brown hackle)

I hope this information helps and that you will be successful with your own "witches" too Just a tip- try them with graylings at the Soca river

(I am asking other forumers to write down some interesting fishing stories, related to this fly or other ways of tying this successful pattern )

Tight lines,
Lucky

@Fishman
