Hey Eelke,,,

Nice hearing from you and welcome to our forum board!

I think you will have a great fishing conditions in that period, especially if the water levels will be a bit higher.

Fishing club of Tolmin (their website: http://www.flyfishing.si/ ) manages some of the most beautiful Slovenian rivers. You may read more at the "Rivers" section of this website. I suggest you to try your luck at the Soca river above the town of Tolmin and at the Idrijca and Baca rivers (all of them managed by the Fishing Club of Tolmin).

These rivers differ from one another, so it is hard to say which flies would be the best choice. But you may never fail by using some nice blue-dun or natural gray CDC patterns (CDC&elks, F-flies, different variations of emergers or flymphs, tied with partridge and CDC fibers), sedges (brown, black, silver- grizzly), witches, tied on hooks #14-#18, classic hare´s ears nymphs, copper johns, caddis larvae, shrimps (gammarus), but don´t forget to bring your streamer "arsenal" with you- muddler minows, tied with elk, combined with marabou in light gray, dark brown, olive and black colours, wooly buggers, etc., tied on large hooks...

You may buy C&R licence for all of the rivers, managed by the FC of Tolmin- it allows you to fish everywhere without taking fish- if you buy regular licence you are often limited in choosing your fishing areas (for ex. you are forbidden to fish in C&R areas). Important-you must use barbless hooks at all of the rivers! When using standard hooks, barbs should be pressed off.

Tackle- #5 or #6 weight rod will be the best choice + don´t forget to take your chest waders with you.

I hope this information helps you. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to post your questions here. We will be glad to help you. You may also get the necessary information (regulations, districts, prices of licences and where to buy them, photos, etc.) about all slovenian fly fishing rivers at this website, under the "Rivers" section...

Tight lines and enjoy your time in Slovenia!

Lucky
