I 've been fishing in Slovenia once a couple of seasons ago and like very much the country, the rivers & fishing. I plan to have one day fly fishing and I am thinking about Sava Bohinka or Krka end of march. If you are coming next weekend the situation is not the best; regarding the momentary weather conditions (it is snowing  ) will se what that means in a day or two. Water levels are rising but it depends how much snow will fall and what are the temperatures in next days.If you can tell us the date when you are coiming forum members can help you choose the "best" location in given circumstances. Hey alex! Welcome to our fly fishing website!  Just an update on recent conditions- due to heavy rain/snow fall in these days, water levels at some rivers did get higher, but I think conditions will be back to normal till the end of this week... The Institute´s part of the Sava Bohinjka river has opened yesterday (on 22nd March) and the water level should be o.k. at the end of the month, of course if there won´t be any intense rain fall till then... Hey luckyluke, I arrived in Ljubljana a couple of hours ago. Good rain/snow while driving today. I was thinking that maybe Krka would be still fishable even after some rain fall or maybe I am wrong? regards alex |

Hey Alex! Welcome to snowy Slovenia!  Well, unfortunatelly we´ve had plenty of rain or snowfall during last days, so water levels have arisen. My source says Krka river water level is high and Sava Bohinjka is getting higher too, but is still fishable with heavy streamers or nymphs.  But I think rivers will be back to normal or at least fishable till the end of the week...If anyone here at the forum board has some more accurate information on recent conditions, we would appreciate it a lot. I had a wonderfull day in Sava Bohinka today. Many fish - mainly rainbows several of 50-60cm, couple of 30-32cm browns and hooked even two graylings the bigger one 40+cm who made a spectacular jump in the air and gone. Great weather the water level was fine until later afternoon when started to rise and to get some colore. Sava Dolinka was looking fishable today when saw it from the road bridge. Nice and friendly people of Slovenia and it seems that everyone speaks English.Must try Soca next time. regards alex |

Hey Alex! I am very very glad that you´ve had such a nice time at the Sava Bohinjka river!  Weather served you well and you´ve been quite lucky with the water level. Due to high temperatures in last days snow began to melt in the lowland of the region, so I expect some snowy water in the following days as it happens at some other rivers in this time too. But it is hard to say that it will interfere fishing significantly.Thanks for your report and I hope to hear from you soon again, Lucky |
