Hallo,

My name i Leszek and I live in Sweden and was recomended to check out your site by another flyfisher that also lives here in Sweden and has a link to your website. I want to say that this site is very good and have a lot of of information and a nice design.

I have been in your beautiful country 4 times (june, september 2003 and july and sept. 2007) and every tripp was fantastic. I have mostly fished Soca and Idrijca.

My next tripp is planed to 21-28 of april and I hope the weather becomes warmer until then.

My first question is about the waterlevels page linked from this site. Why are there so big difference between Soca Solkan in the morning an the afternoon I you look at todays numbers? Where is Solkan located?

How thas the snowmelting affect Soca? Is it milky most of the time while the snow melts?

Hey Lech!

I am very glad that you joined us! Welcome!

Thanks for your praises regarding our website!

You will probably fish at the Soca river around Bovec or Tolmin, so you shouldnt be to much worried about the water level in Solkan, because there are hydro plants above that water level measure point. Solkan is located close to Nova Gorica, where Soca leaves Slovenian territory and flows towards the Adriatic Sea through Italy.

Here is the map:

At the water levels link, you should look at the "Soca Log Cezsoski" measure point (measured near the town of Bovec in the upper Soca valley). Normal value is around 10-16 m3/sek.

Tight lines,
Lucky

Dober vecer Lech

Oh yeah, I forgot to answer your second question

Well, it is hard to say how will melting of snow affect Soca river this year. It usually starts to affect it in the beginning of May, but it all depends on temperatures. This year we have loads of snow in the mountains, so I expect that the soca river will get snowy water in a month or so from now. It usually gets a little higher, white and runs faster, so normal fishing is not very good at that time. We will keep you informed on "snowy Soca issue" at the forum board. You should also take a look at the water levels site for rivers managed by the Fishing Club of Tolmin @ http://www.flyfishing.si . It is usually updated weekly.

It is also important to know, that if Soca gets snowy there is a plenty of possibilities to fish at other rivers in the region which are also a first class fly fishing districts (Lepena, Koritnica, Ucja, Nadiza, Tolminka, Idrijca, Baca, Kneza, Baska Koritnica, Trebuscica).

Tight lines,
Lucky

Ok,

I know the site you refered to but thanks anyway for your help.
I would like to try the smaller streams. I tryed Baca in july last year and I will get back there if the waterlewel is ok there. Trebuscica is another one that I will lay some time on it looked nice last year but I did not fish it.

I enclose a photo of a "Soska postrv" from september 2003 in Idrijca

Tight lines

Lech
