Hello,

I will stay in Nova Gorica between May and September and I am fond of fly fishing. Here are some questions I wonder (sorry for my english!):

What river shall I choose?
Where shall I go?
How much will it cost me?
Shall I take a new fishing licence each day, or does it exist a licence for the whole period between may and september?

Thank you very much!
JV

Hy jvbrunet!

You can choose Soča, which is situated 1 km from Nova Gorica, or you can choose river Vipava (10km away).
Other options are Idrijca, Rižana (both situated less than 1 hour from Nova Gorica). For more details look into the forum and into the Rivers category.
For the prices I exactly don´t know. They are varying from river to river (25-50 euros).
For the fishing licence i would recomend to buy it every day, you will be fishing (depends how many days do you intend fishing).

Best regards

Hey jvbrunet and welcome to the forum board! ;)

As Anselmo has already posted before, you have several possibilities if you are located in Nova Gorica.

1. the closest is Soca river, managed by the Nova Gorica fishing club- you may find some posts on the recent conditions and some nice reports from this part of the Soca river here . Unfortunatelly it is in Slovenian language but there are some nice pictures too, so they may help you...

2. Rivers managed by the Fishing Club of Tolmin- Soca, Idrijca (upper part also managed by the FC Idrija), Baca, Trebuscica, Tolminka, Nadiza, etc. - located north from Nova Gorica around towns Most na Soci, tolmin, Kobarid and Bovec. More info here or at the official FC Tolmin website

3. Soca, Lepena and Koritnica rivers, managed by the States Fisheries institute- even farther to the north, above the town of Bovec towards the Trenta valley where the river Soca takes its source. More info here or at the official States fisheries institute website.

4. Vipava river, managed by the FC Ajdovscina and FC Rence- more info here. River Vipava is also a great river- you will find it in the south-eastern direction from Nova Gorica.

Here is also a map, just to illustrate the location. it will position you in the Nova Gorica and then just take a tour towards the North, to get above Bovec. On the way to it, you will see Most na Soci, Tolmin and Kobarid

And what says Mr. Google about it?

Here is a Google map of the Soca valley area:

I hope this helps For all information on licence prices for the particular river please take a look at our Rivers section in the main menu... You may buy three or five day fishing licence also. Prices vary from 20 to 90 EUR per day. Usually some discount is offered if you buy three or five day licence...

Tight lines,
Lucky

hello,

thank you for your answer.
I have another question:
Are we obliged to take part of a private fishing club, such as the tolmin club, in order to fish in the Soca, or are there public parts in which the license is less expensive?

In fact I know that in france we only have one licence which offers us the right to fish in most of the rivers, but there also private fisheries in which there is another license. Is it the same thing in Slovenia?

If it is the case, what is the price of such a license?

Thank you very much

JV, afraid of the price of fishing license (please reassure me!)
