hello,

My question concerns the fishing license.

Are we obliged to take part of a private fishing club, such as the tolmin club, in order to fish in the Soca or other rivers, or are there public parts in which the license is less expensive?

In fact I know that in france we only have one licence which offers us the right to fish in most of the rivers, but there also private fisheries in which there is another license. Is it the same thing in Slovenia?

If it is the case, what is the price of such a license?

Thank you very much

JV, afraid of the price of fishing license (please reassure me!)

Fishing club Tolmin and all other fishing clubs are not private clubs. I know this can be a bit hard to understand due to prices, but in general, those are not private clubs. Same system is used on all slovene rivers. One river can either be managed by a single club, or as in case of Soca, by several clubs, so you must be carefull, if you buy a licence for Sava or Soca it is only valid in the sector which is managed by the club from which you bought that licence. Some waters are also run by state fishery institue, but prices there are also on the high end of license prices in slovenia. The only private waters would be small lakes stocked wit stockies, which of course is most probably not a fishing you are after.

The good news is, that there are plenty flyfishing waters in Slovenia and some offer excellent fishing for a reasonable price. If you will check the section Revirji on this forum, you might get some ideas.

Hi,

first of all we really don't want to steer you from your question... some facettes have been clarified in Jure's post. Soo let's hope we 'll be able to provide you with answers you sought..

You ain't obliged, "by any means", to take part of the fishing club. The reasons were allready put down in Jures post. Ok, once more - no private managed flowing waters exist in Slovenia, only PUBLIC fishing clubs managed. Jures post will answer your question regarding system of river management that may dissects river in parts managed by neighbouring F. clubs.

As a consequence no public licence for all flowing waters exist, as been mentioned through bout posts! EVERY Fishing club has it's own licence that give you oppurtunity to fish on their waters/waters - managed by them. Therefore the only legal possibility to flyfish or fish on any part of a river managed by any fishing club is to buy a daily or possibly two-, three- or wathever- daily licences!

Lucky L. has allready provided/written down many possibilities in previous topic. To really get you in touch with slovenian flyf. reallity; expect to pay arround 30 to 50 EUR for a day license, and see these as an investment into slovenian waters, as the profit should be keept in clubs- management of rivers... It's a bit less pricy the standards in Austria and England but expect the prices in the same rang in other balcan countries too.

And to the part that was left untuched. Few of those beautifull rivers are not taken as easy rivers in sense of easy flyfishing but with your public waters fisheries getting really heavy pressure you shouldnt be worried about.

Regards,
Sash
