Hi guys,

last year i went fly fishing in september and i had a great time. This year I would like to do it again and I'm looking for a good hotel where the people who work there now a lot about the river so they can give us tips. Any ideas?

Hej Eelke,

Hey Luckyluke, the same as last year. Last year i stayed in Most na Soci in Vila Labod. Last year we had a lot of trouble finding spots to enter the Soca river, so that's why it would be nice to have someone in the hotel to help us. I plan to fish the Soca, Idricija, Baca, etc.

Hey Eelke,

since I am usually not a guest at the accomodation facilities in the Soca valley, I may recommend you some locations, I ve heard of as been ok and which may provide you some additional info regarding fly fishing location or connect you to the guiding services.

Some of them are:
- Hotel Hvala in Kobarid -> povezava [link]
- Penzion Sterk in Most na Soci -> povezava [link]
- Kmetija Zelinc in Zelin (above Idrijca river) -> povezava [link]
- Hotel Zlata ribica in Idrija pri Baci (near the confluence of the Idrijca and Baca rivers) -> povezava [link]

There are many more accomodations in the region, but these are somehow specialized in fly fishing tourism, so I think you will get some additional information on fishing locations there. If you consider getting a guiding service, you may check this website povezava [link] .

I hope this helps
Lucky

Hi, Eelke,

by far the most professional advice on flyfishing, and the best flies as well, you can find at Vila Noblesa, Most na Soci. They have four bungallows and take only flyfishermen. In addition, there you get the best food and wine. They are located 2km from Most na Soci, crossing Idrijca on the road to Tolminski Lom.

e-mail; -email-

Hi Eelke,

I’ve been lodging at Zelinc quite often since 1998. It’s perfect if you want to fish the Idrijca, and conveniently located if you also plan to make day-trips to the Soca, the Sava or the Unica. Good prices, clean rooms and nice country surroundings make it a very good solution, but the staff is not very knowledgeable about fishing.

Last year I stayed at the new Zlata Ribica hotel. Very nice place, perfect to relax after a long fishing day. The Idrijca is just across the yard, the food is very good, the rooms are spacious and fully equipped and they can provide you with decent fishing infos, but it will cost you twice as much compared to the Zelinc farm.

The Hotel Hvala in Kobarid is even more expensive, but it’s location in downtown Kobarid can’t provide the nice, rugged “country” feeling that make other places so enjoyable. The hotel restaurant (Topli Val) is truly excellent, but pricey. I had many great (and inexpensive) meals at the Topli Val 10-15 years ago, when it was located across the street from the I° World War Museum in Kobarid, but since it merged with the Hvala it was transformed in an high scale, haute cousine restaurant that I don’t happen to like as much as I did back then.

The Penzion Sterk in Most na Soci is another affordable solution. It was one of the oldest places to offer food and lodging for foreign fishermen in the Tolmin region. The view of the lake from the dining veranda is splendid, the restaurant room is filled with old fishing and hunting trophies, the food is good but the rooms are just average.

As far as fishing infos, IMHO the best solution will be to log on this site quite often before and during your slovenian holiday !

Tight Lines !
