Slovenia, July 2008

Finally back home from a couple of days great fishing in the Soca valley. When we arrived mid of last week (28) the waterlevel on Soca and Idrijca was high and murky. We had to concentrate our fishing to the tributaries Trebuscica, Baca and Tolminka. My fly fishing friend Jeppe was down for the first time and I'm pretty sure that I will not be his last trip...

We had a really great dry fly fishing for marbles, rainbows and graylings during our stay. The small rivers was just excellent. I got a ~55cm marble in Baca on a small klinkhammer dry size 20, a fantastic fish. Last day when the rain come and the Idrijca, Trebuscica and Baca again was high the Soca had become in just perfect condition, we went up to the upper part of Soca and had a really greaty dry fly fishing for graylings, with a top of 42cm. Day after also the Soca was high and muddy so we decided to travel back home to Sweden.

Flies that was great during this time was small klinkhammers in black, gray and olive size 18-20, F-Fly black size 20, The Swedish "superpuppa" size 16-18. Small nymphs size 18 - pheasant tail and hares ear.

Glad to see that you enjoyed your trip, and congratulations for the beautiful pictures.

One of the most valuable assets of the Tolmin - Idrija region is that even if the weather and water conditions are bad, you're still able to find lots of places where you can be successful.

Thanks Dickerson,
This was actually my 11th trip to the Socavalley during the last years. As I mentioned, monday was actually the first time for me when all rivers was in bad conditions. Anyway, on day of my 11 trips - that's actually pretty OK. Anyway as you say, you normally find something to fish somewhere.

I read some bad news about the storm over Slovenia and the countries around, heavy rain, wind and hail did destroy a lot for the people.
