Hvala za reportažo in lep muharski pozdrav,

Kombinacija težke in srednje lahke ...en lep križanec ujet na suho, čisto za robom, ko so pred dežjem za pol urice vzletele olivke...

Kljub enournemu nalivu smo bili z ribolovom zadovolni. Lp.

Rd. Tolmin ima to lepo urejeno...

V ponedeljek sva s kolegom lovila v predelu "no kill". Prijemov je bilo kar veliko, vendar zgolj šarenke. Bile so precej borbene, večinoma vloženke okoli 40, 45 centinov.

Hej,,,

@tulec in fujitsu

Lepo!

Lucky

No z muharjenjem sem bil vseeno zelo zadovoljen, nekaj fotk tistega dne:

Idrijca zjutraj...

prva marmorata, tistega dne...

pa še ena...

skrivnostni tolmun...

idrijska kraljica...

ena izmed orhidej...

zaklad reke ...

long daddy-ov pri počitku...

This is my first post on the "Muharjenje v Sloveniji" forum, so I would like to introduce myself by expressing my sincere congratulations to Luckyluke and all the other contributors to this informative and beautiful site.

I live in Italy and I have been fly-fishing the marvellous waters of Slovenia since the early 90s, spending at least 7-10 days every year in the Tolmin region to fish the Idrijca, the Soca and their crystal clear tributaries, including the occasional day-trip across the mountains to the Sava Bohinjka valley and the river Unica.

One of my favourite stretches of fly-water has always been the upper Idrijca managed by the R.D. Idrija, and as I am arranging my next trip to Slovenia I would like to make a few comments and ask you some questions.

Unfortunately I cant understand your language, but from one of the pictures included in the report posted by forum member Tulec on Sunday 27 April 2008 it looks like they opened a new catch-and-release area just above the confluence with the Cerknica.

Even if I didnt find any "official" news concerning the institution of a no-kill zone on the Italian and English sections of the R.D. Idrija web-site, I really hope that this is the sign of a positive evolution along the lines of the recent opening of several C&R sectors by the R.D. Tolmin.

I hope that one day most of the wonderful rivers of the Tolmin / Idrija region will be strictly no-kill.
Over the last few years I used to travel to Slovenia during the second half of May, but judging from previous reports it looks like this year the weather is still pretty unstable and the rivers are higher that usual.

One of the things I like best about the end of May on a normal season is that dry-flies are effective throughout the day for grayling, brown and rainbow trout and at the same time the marmoratas are biting on big streamers, while later in the season dry-fly fishing is confined to early morning and late evening and the marmoratas become very spooky and extremely difficult to catch.

Looking at some of the recent pictures the river bottom still looks washed-out by the high water levels. It seems to me that the season is (at least) a couple of weeks late.

Do you think that this year it is better to postpone my long-awaited annual trip to the first half of June ?

How did the winter and the rainy spring affect the hatches so far ?

Is anybody still fishing exclusively with nymphs and streamers or is there any chance that dry-fly fishing will be on in a couple of weeks ?

Thank you very much and tight lines !

Welcome "Dickerson" to the LuckyLuke's forum,
interesting "nickname" you have ... reminds me the famous rodmaker Lyle Dickerson...

I fished the river Idrijca in the company of my fishing buddy yesterday. The water is still high and very cold. In the area near the Slap village we've caught several rainbow trout with streamers and heavy nimphs. In the late afternoon after the heavy raining for an hour or so the trout and some graylings began to take flies from the surface. The result of fishing with a dry flies(CDC mayfly patterns and sedges tyed with elk hair) was some rainbows(obviously stocked) and some nice graylings.
The situation right now is not ready yet for the "true" dry flyfishing, ..but in two/ three weeks it will be for sure.. The first, or second week of June the water conditions(temperature, levels, fly hatches, etc..)will be O.K...

I live in Italy and I have been fly-fishing the marvellous waters of Slovenia since the early 90s,

You must forgive me this question but nowadays you can not be sure if someone is living,.. for instance in Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands,...etc ..and it is not very common that all the citizens speak the local language...

Best regards, r

Grazie mille “ras” for your kind reply and your spot-on update on the Idrijca water conditions.

As far as language alternatives, I deem it necessary to write in English on the forum, because very few people can speak Italian outside of my country, and I believe that English is the best way to keep as many Slovene and foreign anglers interested and involved in our discussion.

Back to our topic, based on your comments I’m obviously considering to postpone my trip to the first half of June, but over the next few days I will keep an eye open to any sign of improvement in the weather/water/hatches conditions.

My main reason of concern is the water temperature: you said that it’s still very cold, and in a “warm” stream like the Idrijca (as “warm” as a trout & grayling stream can be, and sometimes even too warm during the summer) I’m afraid that unless the temperature reaches the 13-14° mark, dry-fly fishing won’t be in full swing due to limited insect emergence and fish activity.

At the same time, I’m aware that levels a little higher than normal are crucial to chase the big marbles, and therefore the next two or three weeks will probably be the best time of the year to (try to) catch the huge grey predators.

Does anybody have any update concerning the new R.D. Idrija regulations and no-kill zone ?

Thanks everybody and tight lines !

P.S. This picture taken last year on the upper Idrijca IMHO is the way the river should look like on a perfect, rainy “marmorata day” !

Tight Lines !

Pozdravlenji,

Kje je dober zemljevid razstava 'A' in 'B' ribolov okraj v Idrija? Je ne zemljevid naprej Idrija tkalec.

---------------------------------------------

Since my Slovene is still very poor; Is there a map that shows the 'A' and 'B' sections on the Idrija Club waters? I am unable to find one on the club's site in either English or Slovene.

Hvala!

On the R.D. Idrija web site (http://ribiska-druzina-idrija.s5.net/) they have a map showing in blue all the “hunting water” open for fishing, but with the type “B” tourist permit you are allowed to fish only from Stopnik to Sp. Idrija.

Fishing on the Idrijca in September is usually great (perfect dry-fly time) unless the river is too low and the water too warm.

The Stopnik bridge is west of Zelin, where the dark blue line meets the pale blue line (that's where the R.D. Tolmin managed waters end and the R.D. Idrija sector begins).

I hope that some of the forum members from Slovenia can tell us more about the new C&R regulations of the R.D. Idrija and if the tributaries of the upper Idrijca can be fished by foreign anglers with the "A" type permit.

I fished the expensive "A" district only once, in August 2006, spending the entire day on the stretch of Idrijca just above Sp. Idrija.

I had very high expectations, but I didn't find it so much better than the "B" sector.

In 2008, if possible, I would like to fish the Kanomljica, a nice small tributary that flows into the Idrijca at Sp. Idrija.

Best regards

Hej guys,

@MikeL

Thats right- Stopnik bridge is in W direction from Želin and represents the upper border with the Tolmin fishing Club.

And your Slovenian language is improving! Just to help you with your question- correct sentence formation is:

ENG: Is there a map that shows the 'A' and 'B' sections on the Idrija Club waters? I am unable to find one on the club's site in either English or Slovene.

If you need any further assistance with Slovenian language just post your questions- maybe we should make a new topic on linguistic matters to help all of you that want to understand and/or talk Slovenian language a bit more?

@dickerson

First of all warmly welcome to our website!

I am very glad that you´ve found our website and that you already fully participate in the forum debate It is really nice to see that also foreigners find this website useful. But as I see you actually arent foreigner as you are almost an expert on Slovenian rivers, especially those managed by the FC Tolmin and Idrija in the western part of Slovenia!

I think that the conditions on waters, managed by the Tolmin Fishing Club are already close to perfect, except on the Soca river, which is still a little bit high, but fishable. I also expect some snowy water in the following weeks- maybe there will be some delay with that, because temperatures are still low in the mountains, so snow doesnt melt so quickly... It is still 2- 3 meters of the snow in th Julian Alps, above 2000m.

But you are right- water temperature of the Idrijca river is still low, and insect hatch is still not so intense as it is usually in this time of year. But fish already feed a lot beneath the surface, so nymphing produces great results. You may also experience some dry fly hatch during day, but I expect it will be more intense in lets say... two weeks time...

Tight lines,
Lucky

Thank you for answering my questions.

Nowhere on the Slovenian portion of the Idrija Club website was I able to find information on whether foreign anglers are permitted to fish the upper tributaries. I hope one of the locals can help you out.
