Of course this forum is about fly-fishing in Slovenia, and I apologize for my "off-topic" post, but I wanted to share with you a little photo-report from one of my home-waters: the Aniene river, a beautiful trout stream that flows in the Apennines, just a few kilometres away from the city of Rome. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tight Lines ! ![]() |

Dickerson, from Your private messages I already know the beautiful river Aniene and of "her" beautiful brown trout!! Maybe not all of the forum members know that the Aniene is a public water, ...and that's the reason why majority of the anyway beautiful coloured fish are on the small scale..... R ![]() |

Yes, the river is beautiful, but the trout size is sadly affected by the fact that it’s public water open to fishing with any kind of technique (bait, spinning, etc.) ![]() On the positive side, the Aniene is surrounded by an abundance of historic sites, from the ruins of the mountain residence of Nero (the infamous Roman emperor) to the beautiful monasteries founded by Saint Benedict during the Middle Age (photos attached). Needless to say … the food and the wine in the region is to die for ! ![]() “MikeL”, let me know exactly when you will be in Rome, and I’ll try to help you to go fishing for (small) wild brown trout in the company of free grazing horses amid a beautiful valley just 30 minutes from the Capital. You can contact me via PM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tight Lines ! ![]() |

Thank you Luka, The real asset of the Aniene is the location: it's so close to Rome that I can come back home from the office, have lunch, play with the kids, grab my rod and tackle and hit the water in the late afternoon, just in time for the evening hatch. By the way, for those of you who are interested (MikeL) I have to say that central Italy has many other beautiful trout rivers, even if they are a little more distant from my nation's capital. Some of them are managed quite well, including fly-fishing only catch and release areas, and hold a healty population of good sized fish. Even the Tuscan headwaters of the Tiber (the river that runs through Rome at the end of its journey) are very good, and near Sansepolcro (approximately 250 km north of Rome) there is an excellent 8 km long C&R zone that is loaded with browns and grayling. As far as I know, it's the only major grayling fishery south of the Alps on our side of the Adriatic. I don't want to pollute the forum with too many off topic posts, but if you don't mind I can post some pictures of the Tiber. [ Edited Friday 29 August 2008 - 11:31:06 ] Tight Lines ! ![]() |

Dickerson, Thank you for the information both here and in your Private Message. Had I know about these opportunities sooner, I would certainly have made time for them in my plans. As I said, I just cant be sure I will be able to sneak away while I am in Rome. But prior to my time in Italy, I will spend week of fishing in Slovenia! There is only 5 days until I leave. Tight lines, Mike |
